Institutional Review Board

Our Annual Board Member Training is THIS FRIDAY, and the IRB staff have been hard at work preparing some great discussions we're excited for you to participate in. Remember, we need your support at this event to meet our institutional requirements for accreditation, but also, its a great chance to see the IRB staff and your fellow members!

This year’s training will look a little different. Instead of a general regulatory refresher, we’re focusing on the judgment behind our decisions, and one thread runs through all of it: When it comes to weighing risks against benefits, this board is often the only check.

The goal of our discussion won't be to provide clear answers, but instead to dig into the questions we ask as we review human subjects research. We’ll follow up with a short reading list for a later conversation to cover your last hour of required Continuing Education for the year.

We’ll also provide a “State of the IRB” update, and a refresher on how to review Single IRB (SIRB) applications.

Please try and make this training a priority; however, we also understand you are all very busy, so a recording will be available after the training. University of Utah IRB requires board members to complete 3 hours of Continuing Education every year, so this is a great way to take care of most of that requirement.
