New IRB Guidance
We are excited to share two new guidance pages designed to help you understand when IRB review is required and when a project may be Non-Human Subjects Research (NHSR). These resources provide more information about projects that may not need to be reviewed by the IRB.
These resources intended to provide you with a clear understanding of when projects may require (or not require) IRB submission. Thank you for your continued support of ethical research practices.
Is IRB Review Required?
This guidance is an at-a-glance guide to assist researchers in understanding submission requirements for research or non-research activities.
Non-Human Subject Research
This guidance provides additional information about whether a project is non-human subjects research or requires submission to the IRB.
Updated MRI Risk Language
In August 2025, the Radiology Safety Committee updated MRI risk language for research to be included in informed consent forms (ICF) for active and new studies. Attached is the approved ICF MRI risk language. Please review your studies and update the consent form as needed.
For questions, please contact Suyi Niu, Radiology Research Regulatory Manager at Suyi.Niu@hsc.utah.edu.
