Informed Consent

The Common Rule sets forth general requirements for informed consent. The IRB asks the investigator to describe the consent process in the ERICA application. Every consent process must meet the following general requirements for informed consent. While in the past, the University of Utah has provided consent templates to assist creating consent documents, the research community has grown and evolved. More and more research is conducted collaboratively among a number of institutions. In an effort to allow more flexibility, the University of Utah IRB has created an expandable checklist to assist investigators and research staff understand the requirements of informed consent.

The University of Utah IRB does not utilize the option for broad consent (54 CFR 46.116(d)).
