Including People Who Speak Spanish in Research

Beginning July 1, 2023, all new, prospective studies with participant interaction conducted by University of Utah investigators within the state of Utah must adhere to a new policy requiring the inclusion of people who speak Spanish to receive IRB approval. All previously approved, prospective studies with participant interaction that are open to enrollment and submit for continuing review must adhere to this policy by April 1, 2024.

Annual Progress Updates

ERICA Update

The IRB and Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) have initiated a new requirement for Annual HRPP Progress Updates in the ERICA system. The purpose of the Annual HRPP Progress Update is to receive study status information for studies that do not require the traditional continuing review. This means that all active, open studies without an expiration date will be required to submit an Annual HRPP Progress Update in order to remain open and active.

She hopes to infuse her knowledge of research ethics into the discussion and raise awareness about the IRB while also sharing her knowledge of sewing.
